A documentary-cum-photojournalistic album of the Podlasie region of eastern Poland. The photographs, which were taken over the course of twenty years, portray the historical architecture of rural areas and small towns, intertwined with scenes depicting daily life and the peasants at work. The sequence of shots taken during Orthodox religious services is particularly eye-catching. The book realistically conveys the atmosphere in the Polish countryside during the dying years of communism.

Wykonane na przestrzeni 20 lat zdjęcia dawnej architektury wiejskiej i małomiasteczkowej przeplatają się ze scenami codziennego życia i pracy chłopów, uwagę zwraca sekwencja fotografii z nabożeństw prawosławnych. Książka realistycznie oddająca atmosferę czasu schyłku komunizmu na polskiej wsi.

Waldemer Stępień was born in Radom in 1940. A photographer and photojournalist collaborating with the press in Lublin and the surrounding region, he is involved with the Lubelskie Towarzystwo Fotograficzne (Lublin Photographic Society). He graduated in law and began his photographic career as an amateur.

Waldemar Stępień (ur. 1940, Radom) – fotograf i fotoreporter, współpracownik prasy lubelskiej, jako twórca związany z Lubelskim Towarzystwem Fotografcznym. Absolwent studiów prawniczych, fotografią zajmował się początkowo amatorsko.
