| The book presents a series entitled “Shelters”, which consists of black-and-white photographs taken in 2016 and 2017 in Warsaw, Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro. They depict temporary constructions built inside domestic interiors, on terraces and in gardens. Inspired by childhood games at home, they are show both empty and as ‘shelters’ occupied by a member of the household. |

Książka przedstawia cykl czarno-białych fotografii “Shelters”, wykonanych w latach 2016-2017 w Warszawie, Lizbonie i Rio de Janeiro. Przedstawiają one prowizoryczne konstrukcje ze sprzętów domowych zbudowane przez znajomych artystki w ich własnych mieszkaniach. Inscenizowane fotografie, inspirowane dziecięcymi zabawami w dom, ukazują zarówno puste, jak i zamieszkane przez dorosłych, osobiste “schrony”. |

| Joanna Piotrowska was born in Warsaw in 1985 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the Royal College of Art in London. She is one of the best-know photographers of her generation and has exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (2016), Tate Britain in London (2019) and Kunsthalle Basel in Switzerland (2019). She specialises in staged, black-and-white photographs which she uses to present psychological and emotional states. |
