| “Zapomniani. My Żydzi kresowi” (The Forgotten. We, the Jews of the Eastern Borderlands) contains a selection of photographs taken by Polec in both the historical region of Galicia, which lay in part of central and eastern Europe and, within that, the smaller historical region of Podole, in west-central and south-west Ukraine and north-east Moldavia. The photos, which were taken between 1977 and 2005, depict the daily life and customs of the titular forgotten; the Jewish communities living in the former shtetls of Galicia. Each chapter of the book is devoted to one of the small towns the photographer visited, including Zhytomyr, Bershad, Ivano-Frankivsk and Drohobychy. In addition to the colour and black-and-white photographs, the book contains excerpts of conversation with the last Jewish residents. |

Wybór zdjęć wykonanych przez autora w latach 1977-2005 na terenach historycznej Galicji i Podola. Fotograf przedstawia życie codzienne i obyczaje tytułowych “zapomnianych” społeczności żydowskich zamieszkujących dawne galicyjskie sztetle. Książka podzielona jest na rozdziały dotyczące każdego z odwiedzonych przez fotografa miasteczek takich jak Żytomierz, Berszad, Stanisławów, Drohobycz. Oprócz kolorowych i czarno-białych fotografii w książce umieszczono fragmenty rozmów z ostatnimi Żydami. |
