Zuzanna Janin’s (born in 1961) installations, videos, objects, and sculptures primarily deal with the basic questions of time and existence, oftentimes in unconventional ways. They are as much characterized by formal transmutation, the transposition of materials into another quality, as by reflection rooted in conceptualism.
Her recurrent subject matters include personal stories, familial memory, and the traces of the passage of time, creation based on experiences and the observation of reality, the relationship between oblivion and memory for the individual and society, the role of memory in history, redefining the past for the community and the individual—through the recalling of images of a personal past and situations from the memory or the unconscious.
Janin’s exhibition in MODEM features the artist’s fundamental genres as well as personalized drawings, collages, and photo-based digital prints. The selection picked from the past over fifteen years includes several groups of artworks that will debut in MODEM.
