| “Kulisy teatru” (Backstage), Hartwig’s second most famous album after “Fotografika” (Artistic Photography), is a subjective, modern and, at times, experimental artistic work of photojournalism. Alongside the genre scenes captured backstage, there are still lifes and details, rasterised and well-nigh abstract records of the play of light and movement onstage. Portraits of actors and other theatre people predominate, giving the book a humanist expressiveness. |

Obok uchwyconych za tytułowymi kulisami scenek rodzajowych pojawiają się martwe natury, detale, grafizacje i niemal abstrakcyjne zapisy gry świateł i ruchu scenicznego. Całość dominują portrety aktorów i ludzi teatru, co nadaje książce humanistyczny wyraz. |

| Edward Hartwig was born in Moscow in 1909 and he died in Warsaw in 2003. The most important creator of artistic photography in the second half of the twentieth century, he was a co-founder of the Związek Polskich Artystów Fotografików (Union of Polish Art Photographers) and one of its activists. He was the author of several dozen photographic albums and an artistic photographer whose work encompassed a wide array of genres and a broad formal spectrum, ranging from travel, portrait and theatrical photography to photomontage and experimental, intensely rasterised studies verging on the abstract. |

Edward Hartwig (ur. 1909, Moskwa – zm. 2003, Warszawa) – najważniejszy polski twórca fotografii artystycznej w II poł. XX wieku, współzałożyciel i działacz ZPAF, autor kilkudziesięciu albumów fotograficznych, fotografik o szerokim spektrum gatunkowym i formalnym: od fotografii krajoznawczej, portretowej i teatralnej po fotomontaże i eksperymentalne, silnie grafizowane studia z pogranicza abstrakcji. |
