| The album documents the adaptation of Polish mass culture to Western models. Attracted by popular television programmes and glossy magazines, girls and young women began competing for the label of ‘most beautiful’ and gifted with a particular talent. As Rayss followed the beauty competition circuit, she recorded not only the particular aesthetics of those events and the cultural phenomenon, but also the emotions and aspirations of her subjects without assessing or objectifying them. |

| Agnieszka Rayss (b. 1970), is a photographer involved primarily in documentary photography and photojournalism. A co-founder of the Sputnik Photos international collective of East-Central European photographers, her background is in history of art and she also completed the Photographic Studies course run by the Związek Polskich Artystów Fotografików (Union of Polish Art Photographers) and journalism studies at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw. She obtained her doctorate at the University of the Arts Poznan. |

Agnieszka Rayss (ur. 1970) – fotografka zajmująca się głównie dokumentem i fotoreportażem. Współzałożycielka kolektywu Sputnik Photos. Z wykształcenia historyczka sztuki, ukończyła też Studium Fotografii Związku Polskich Artystów Fotografików i Laboratorium Reportażu przy Collegium Civitas w Warszawie. Stopień doktora otrzymała na Uniwersytecie Artystycznym w Poznaniu. |
